Bloomsburg Rolls Over Clarion

CLARION -- Tailback Jamar Brittingham (Levittown/Neshaminy) rushed for a game-high 132 yards and scored three touchdowns and backup fullback Stefan Adams (West Chester/Henderson) rushed for a career-high 111 yards and two scores to lead the Bloomsburg University (2-2) Huskies to a 52-10 win over Clarion University (0-4) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) football action Saturday night.
The 52 points scored by the Huskies, who snapped a two-game losing streak, were the most for the team since getting 63 against Lock Haven in 2005.
After a scoreless first period, the Huskies got on the board first when Jon Koenig (Pine Grove/Pine Grove) connected on a 25-yard field goal capping an 80-yard drive.
Clarion tied the game at 3-3 on the ensuing series when Robert Mamula hit a 37-yard field goal. Brittingham then scored on consecutive possessions for the Huskies going in from three yards and one yard out to give the Huskies a 17-3 halftime lead.
Brittingham reached the endzone for the third time in the game on the Huskies second possession of the half when he scored from four yards out for a 24-3 advantage.
Clarion cut the deficit to 24-10 when Tyler Huether hit Pierre Odom with a 29-yard scoring pass with 6:53 left in the third. The Huskies then mounted a 54-yard drive with quarterback Dan Latorre (Elysburg/Southern Columbia) capping the drive with a one-yard run for a 31-10 lead.
The Huskies started to put the game out of reach when Adams, the backup fullback with tailback speed, ran 59-yards, a career-long, for a touchdown late in the third period.
In the fourth period, Latorre added a 13-yard touchdown run and Adams capped the day for Bloomsburg with a seven-yard scoring run.
Brittingham's 132 yards rushing moved into fourth place all-time on the PSAC career rushing list, past Shippensburg's John Kuhn, with 4,695 yards. The 100-yard game was also the 25th of Brittingham's career.
Adams finished with 111 yards on just seven carries as the Huskies totaled 551 yards of total offense.
Defensively, the Huskies intercepted four Clarion passes, including two by freshman linebacker Michael Varanavage (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan).
Bloomsburg opens its PSAC Eastern Division schedule next week at West Chester starting at 2 p.m.
